Hey there! Welcome to Prosper! My name is Cory Bedtke, and I am a Tennessee-based licensed clinical social worker providing therapy services to folks in Illinois, Tennessee and Maine. As a clinician, I really try to make therapy a comfortable and relaxed space, as I know it can be daunting to open up to a complete stranger about yourself. While I have received formal education and training in different clinical approaches through graduate school and continuing education, I value making therapeutic concepts and theories simple to understand and easy for clients to apply to their own lives. My clinical approach pulls heavily from cognitive behavioral therapy, mixed in with client centered therapy, mindfulness therapy, solution focused therapy, and trauma focused therapy. I believe it is necessary to meet the client where they are at, so each therapeutic treatment plan and course of therapy is catered to your individual needs and progress.
I first got started in the field of social work in schools serving students with special education needs, mostly neurodivergent students with Autism, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. I really clicked with this population, particularly their ability to see and experience the world a bit differently. Fast forward about a decade to today, when I have transitioned to working with adults, but didn't want to stray too far away from this population. I have now served neurodivergent folks from early childhood years through adulthood and really value collaborating together to help clients find their strengths, feel empowered, and develop the tools necessary to be successful in our world.
I believe that although we utilize clinical diagnoses that describe commonalities and similar sets of problems that clients seeking therapy may face, it is so necessary to fully understand each client's unique perspective, needs, strengths, abilities, and goals. While a diagnosis may help you understand yourself a bit better, you are more than this label. I enjoy being an active listener during sessions and working with clients to find out who you are as a whole person, what your experiences have been in the past to shape you into who are today, and how we can work together to help mold you into who you want to be in the future.
