Intro

Hey there! My name is Jaxson (they/them) and I am a Clinical Psychologist in Illinois. I am a queer, neurodivergent person that has focused much of their career on collaborating with queer and neurodiverse clients to meet their therapeutic needs. Now, I will be extending my professional work to the realm of Autism psychological testing with Prosper Health. I have previously worked within community health-based LGBTQ organizations, in addition to several years specializing in serving sexual orientation and gender identity minority students within college counseling settings. My therapeutic framework is based in a trauma-informed, neurodiverse affirming one and I am trained in DBT and EFFT approaches to treatment

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

As a neurodivergent and queer person, focusing my career on serving the needs of community members has served as a journey of mutual liberation. I am a proponent of self-diagnosis as much as I am formal diagnosis for Autism and have experienced how being able to accurately support and identify the nuances of the Autistic experience for a client can be life changing. I feel honored to be in community with the clients I support, in addition to being shaped personally by their journeys.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I implore each client I work with to recognize they are the expert of their experiences and needs. Many multiply marginalized individuals have coped with oppressive experiences through self-blame, hate, or mistrust. Connecting Autistic clients to their humanity and affirming their worthiness is paramount to building the base for a strengths-based approach.
