Intro
Hi! My name is Johand Rodríguez-Fernández, and I am a clinical psychologist licensed in Florida, Virginia, and Michigan. I completed both my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at Albizu University. My main focus as a mental health professional has always been to support people in their journeys to embrace and celebrate their identities. I am proud of my ethnic background and identify with Afro-Latino culture. Working from an affirmative perspective, I respect, value, and understand the unique challenges and dynamics of being part of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as other socially marginalized groups.
Through my years of clinical experience as a psychologist, I have seen how people with autism have been overpathologized and stigmatized. I want to continue supporting neurodivergent individuals in achieving their personal goals, as well as in obtaining validation and support to embrace their identities. Working with Prosper Health helps me continue providing a safe space and opportunities for autistic adults.
Respect, validation, equity, and justice are important pillars in my work as a psychologist. These values are also crucial when working from an affirmative approach to help others build their own strengths. Many autistic adults have not learned to embrace their identities due to experiences of prejudice and social deprivation. Understanding this, not only as a professional but also on a personal level, reinforces my commitment to continue doing the work I do at Prosper Health.
