Intro

Hello and welcome! My name is Dr. Marquita Stokes, but my clients call me Dr. M! I am a clinical psychologist currently licensed in California and Pennsylvania (soon to be PsyPact as well!). My professional experiences have afforded me opportunities to develop interests and specialties in trauma, adolescent and young adult development, mood and anxiety, ADHD, as well as identity development. Throughout my life, I have worked to provide care to culturally diverse and marginalized communities (BIPOC, LGBTQ, neurodivergent/ADHD) and am excited to bring that experience to Prosper Health!

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I have developed a deep passion to utilize my position as a mental health practitioner as a bridge of expanding access to oft excluded or disproportionately serviced individuals. Autistic and neurodivergent individuals are a particular subset of the population that has increasingly become a more prominent group that overtly experiences these barriers to effective care and affirming support. I strive to provide support that honors the unique abilities, perspectives, and resilience of each individual in this community. Lastly, my postdoctoral training afforded specialized training in the assessment, treatment, and consultation of neurodivergent individuals to which I feel both comfortable and equipped to provide evidence-based care to this population.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I use a flexible, client centered style to create a safe space that allows interviewing and assessment to be an intervention in and of itself. I believe everyone wants to be seen, heard, and understood for the space that they take up in the world, and I use my sessions to be an undistracted and open mirror to reflect another’s true identity and to help build insights into their full profile of areas of gifting, strengths, individualities, and growth pursuits. My goal is to help clients unify their life experiences into a balanced & self-affirming narrative by optimizing personal strengths and growing areas of vulnerability in order to effectively navigate life’s challenges. In addition, I help clients understand underlying patterns that help to expand their optimal functioning and empower them to become the change agents in their own lives.
